Coming up with good content is something that is sought after by every successful webmaster. It is suggested that at least 200 words of content is mandatory with every webpage. I disagree. Every article that I ever published has at least 600 words and as much descriptive definition into each sentence as possible. The simple fact is search engines today are far to advanced to fall for most auto generated content. They want good, meaningful, educational unique content. As a webmaster you can appreciate the kind of effort necessary to achieve this. There are many people I listen to that believe there is software out there that can write stories for them. Again, I disagree. I am 45 years old and have always been fascinated with words and how they are used. There is software that you can use to help you along, but if you do not have a decent grasp of the language yourself you are wasting your time. Search spiders today simply must have good content to feed on or their visits to your site will be shallow and occasional at best. There is no truth or hard rules to follow with organic or natural search engine marketing because those rules are constantly changing. If you value Google’s opinion of what is acceptable then get a sitemaps account and read their guidelines. I think we can hold confidence in writing quality content for the purpose of people. We know a good article that is original and not duplicated is pretty well worth its weight in gold. Authors that consistently post great content can quickly become authorities in their field.
To Author or Automate Your Content?
I am going to ask a straightforward question… Is any form of auto generating your own content black hat? This is a question that has no clear answer in the eyes of Search engines. According to Google, using machine generated techniques can be harmful to your placement in result pages. I just did a search on one of Google’s data centers for “matt cutts auto generated content” and found this site http://thecontentsolution.com/. I am totally unaware of this product. I honestly just discovered it now. If you scroll down to the thumbnails you can see the first feature displaying is “The Content Grabber”. Fundamentally, this is where I draw the line. If I am going to make content it is always from my own seed documents. NEVER should another author’s work be ripped off and rewritten, unless permission is granted. Just my 2 cents
.
Let me preface my next point by saying SEO, content generation and experimentation is a hobby of mine. It stems from my childhood where I always had a fascination for dissecting the English language. In school I pretty well sucked at every other academic subject, but anything to do with words and their uses always blew me away. Anytime I heard music that I liked I seemed to always be the one who learned the words first. I own my own house have 2 cars, a dog and have a beautiful family. I make a decent living with my primary livelihood which is graphic design related. I also have worked as a consultant with many folks that want to create good unique content and publish it in the best possible manner without breaking rules. I can tell you in my experience there is nothing more authentic and entertaining than a human story from “the hip”. What about the toothless homeless man last night that asked you “he yu gotta cigret?”
For the fun of it I purchased 3 of the most publicized auto content generating tools I could find. I wanted to give them a road test. I have used Articlebot, Webspinner and WebSite Content Wizard. I started with the goal to really find out if it is possible to create machine generated content from scratch that gets indexed and/ or favored in serps. I have been experimenting for about 2 years and can truthfully tell you that you can. It is not easy though. The content you make is only as good as your clever use of synonyms, phrases, sentence fragments, slang and overall comprehesion of the language as a “whole“. When you have GOOD knowledge of the English language it becomes easier to do more with it. Additionally, your mind begins to expand into other methods in which to apply your new skills into your daily tasks. After all you want to work “Smarter not Harder”.
What I Have Learned About Content Generation is…
- You can build sites using 100% automated techniques that get fully indexed by any of the SEs
- Strategically incorporate php programming into your templates to help avoid dup penalties
- It is easy to create endless streams of content in any subject matter once you get in the groove
- By combining Excel, word, notepad, an html editor (Dreamweaver) and a photo editing program (Fireworks) with your automated tool kit you are limited only by your imagination
- You can Output full html from a template that is not seen as a template by se’s
Please do not have the misconception that software can flawlessly manufacture nice content for you. The small exercise I did today does not get into the other bells and whistles such as blocks (another source of content for a project) or RDB (Relational Data Base). To successfully massage each project so that output is acceptable it requires lots of practice, hard work and language comprehension.
Few will argue that Search engine friendly web design with unique, helpful content are one of the most critical elements in Search Engine Optimization today. However, it is not as simple as the search bots find 100’s of words about “red shoes in China” on your site that you will be well ranked or favored in anyway. Google bot is almost human now. Google has been using LSI technology for a few years. If you want to see symantic results from Google use the tilde key, e.g. search for ~wildlife then search wildlife. Pay careful attention to what is bold in the result pages. That coupled with their core of engineers translates to putting your thinking cap on in SEO planning for your websites. Many believe that building an outstanding site with a plethora of good content can take forever. Unfortunately, for many that is true. For the elite few it is so far from the truth.
Keeping within the theme of fun on this blog I have made a video from this post . To recap I have simply written a sentence “I like going to my parents on the weekend to go swimming in the lake”. Then I rewrote it 5 times:
Rephrased Sentence1- On the weekend I enjoy visiting my parents and swimming in the lake
Rephrased Sentence2- Visiting my mom and dad to go for a swim on the weekend is one of my favorite pastimes

These sentences all read well. By expanding this concept into paragraphs you are able to write many versions of your original story!! This video has been created to demonstrate how words can be changed in a sentence yet the sentence still has a similar meaning. It was made at an entry level. Once your wealth with the English language becomes greater you can develop amazing content whether you are writing one, ten, a hundred or more. This is nothing but the tip of the iceberg and can help build your understanding of the English Language very quickly indeed.

J
That is an interesting spin on writing. I enjoyed the video, it was very easy to follow. Another point to remember is what have all the major search engines built their success on? Serving up scraped content from other peoples sites without your permission!!

[…] Article Writing When creating articles I always believe that writings from the heart are most worthy of a good read. The other day I was surfing the web looking for interesting content related business ideas. I came across an approach to writing that put me back a bit. I found it on a “>word blog. Basically it is a way to generate your content from your own articles by creating synonymous spins of it. I wasn’t quite getting what the point (value) of it was, and then I watched the video. My mind began to wander once I saw how easy it looked but came to the conclusion that it would be easier just to write as I enjoy, so my opinion is I wouldn’t go there. Just write about what your passion is and publish those articles. Make a point to submit a couple times a week. Keep in mind that the heart of your story should focus getting to the point to the people that are reading. […]
